Trafalgar Square et la Gallerie Nationale / Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery

Aujourd'hui, Mat et moi sommes alles visiter la Gallerie Nationale ainsi que Trafalgar Square. Durant la visite guidee de la Gallerie Nationale, nous avons vu des oeuvres de Michelangelo, de Rembrandt, Degas, Picasso et Monet. La Gallerie Nationale a l'une des plus grandes collections d'art du monde, et nous avons bien apprecie la visite. Nous avons aussi fait le tour du Trafalgar Square, qui commemore la bataille de Trafalgar, la bataille navale la plus importante du 19e siecle. Cette bataille, entre Francais et Anglais, a assure que Napoleon n'envahisse pas l'Angleterre et qu'il choissise a la place de guerroyer en Allemagne, contre les allies des Anglais. Trafalgar Square comprend la statue de Nelson, l'homme militaire qui gagna la bataille au nom de l'Angleterre mais y perdit sa vie.

Today, Mat and I visited the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square. During the guided tour of the gallery, we saw paintings from Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Degas, Picasso and Monet. The National Gallery has one of the world's greatest art collections in the world, and we really enjoyed the visit. We also went around Trafalgar Square, which commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. It was the pivotal naval battle of the 19th century. The French and Spanish lost 22 ships, while the British lost none. The British commander Nelson died late in the battle, by which time he had ensured his place as Britain's greatest naval hero. The British victory ensured that Napoleon abandon his plans to invade southern England and instead fight in Germany against Britain's allies.
